Origin and Establishment
Veteran Social worker Mr. Krishan Malhotra, the Founder and Managing Trustee, Krishan Malhotra Charities, Indore, marked the setting up of Jimmy McGilligan Centre for Sustainable Development by planting a tree in Village Sanawadiya District Indore on August 31,2013.

On this occasion, 81 years old Mr. Malhotra was delighted to announce “this centre will work under the aegis of Krishan Malhotra Charities”. Giving its background, he stated the following:
“The Trust had founded this Centre vide its meeting held on 30 December 2010 when it was decided that Vice Chairperson of the Trust, Dr. Mrs. Janak Palta McGilligan and her husband Jimmy McGilligan, veteran social workers with their life time experience, would run this centre in village Sanawadiya after their retirement from Barli Development Institute for Rural Women. Both of them began working in this direction, starting from buying a piece of personal land in this village in 2010, building ‘Giridarshan’, followed by building and installing a 2 kW Hybrid Power station in collaboration with Daly College and RSIS. Janak and Jimmy, having retired from the Barli Institute on 16 April, 2011, were looking forward to moving to Giridarshan. Jimmy McGilligan unfortunately passed away following a tragic accident. Janak McGilligan moved to Giridarshan, and continued the mission of service to society and environment despite this untimely and sudden loss. This Centre has been named after Jimmy McGilligan for his dedicated services for more than twenty five years. During the last three years, the Centre has been in the process of taking its final shape. On behalf of the Trust, I express my gratitude to Mrs. Janak McGilligan for generously offering Jimmy and Janak’s ‘Giridarshan’, their personal abode – a live model for sustainable development – to be used for the Centre’s activities. The Trust is also grateful to her for accepting to serve as the Director of this Centre on an honorary basis. She has been appointed as the Chief Functionary of this Centre. Giridarshan being Janak’s home, the Trust is fortunate that she is residing at the Centre (along with her trained personal assistants, Mrs. Nanda and Mr. Rajendra Chouhan) , so that her undivided and full-time attention will be available for the Centre’s activities.”
